About Us


Dr. Shantel Thomas, Ph.D. is President and CEO of A Sound Mind Counseling Service, LLC. She received her B.A., M.Ed. from the University of Toledo where she attended on a full athletic scholarship and had a stellar career as a sprinter, traveling the world competing and receiving various honors, including MAC Athlete of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year for Ohio. Her doctorate is from Kent State University.

 

Thomas was inducted into the University of Toledo’s Hall of Fame and selected as one of Cincinnati’s Leading Women. She was a Health Care Hero and Athena Awards finalist in 2006. She was also honored in Who’s Who of Black Cincinnati in 2009 and 2007. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and a life member of the Ohio Counseling Association.

Brooke Asbury, MA, PCC

Brooke Asbury is a Professional Clinical Counselor with experience working with a diverse population within the community mental health, private practice and church settings.  She has worked extensively with children, adolescents and families with multiple needs and has several years of experience working in Cincinnati area schools, addressing the needs of high-risk children.  Brooke received a BS in Family Studies at Miami University in Oxford, OH as well as a Master of Arts in Counseling degree at Cincinnati Christian University.  She has a passion to treat the whole person, dealing with behavioral, emotional and spiritual issues.  Brooke is a native to the Cincinnati area.

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Shawnta Brent is a ( PCC ) Professional Clinical Counselor of A Sound Mind Counseling Service. Mrs. Brent received her Bachelors of Arts and Science from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio with a dual degree in Psychology/Social Work and her Masters in Agency Community Counseling from Xavier University. She has been in the field for over 13 years. Mrs. Brent has experience working with diverse backgrounds with mental health issues and other daily stressors. Her areas of interest include, but are not limited to  Individual Counseling, Relationship Issues, Depression/Anxiety, Personal and Social Issues and Stress Management. 

 

 

 

Tomica Chitterson, MA, PCC-S

Ms. Chitterson is a Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC). She received her Masters in Community and School Counseling from Xavier University. Ms. Chitterson has worked with a diverse clientele including individuals of varied ages, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has over a decade of experience in the field of social services/mental health and is available to work with individuals with a wide range of needs.   Some of her clinical experience has included working with high-risk youths and their families, individuals who have been impacted by sexual and/or domestic violence, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and women’s issues.

 

 

 

Connie Moody, MSW, LISW-S

Connie Moody is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and has extensive mental health counseling experience with all age groups and backgrounds. She received her B.S in Psychology from Xavier University and her MSW from the University of Cincinnati. Ms. Moody is a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and is a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). She is trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has experience in grief and loss, geriatrics, occupational issues and has presented workplace wellness trainings. 

 

 

 

Kimberly Johnson, MA., Community Counseling Ms. Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She received her BA from Wittenberg University and an MA from Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio. Ms Johnson has experience working with children, adolescents and families. She has 18 years experience working with at-risk populations. She is the mother of two children and a native of Cincinnati Ohio.

 

 

 

Belinda King, MSW, LSW

Mrs. King, MSW, LSW is a Christian Licensed Social Worker.  She received her Masters of Social Work from The University of Cincinnati.  She has been in the field for over 20 years and has experience working with children, at-risk adolescents, families, providing individual, and group therapy.   She also has experience working with addictions.  Her areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, Women’s Issues, Depression, Grief and Loss, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Stress and Anger Management.   She and her husband, Steve of 26 years have four children. Belinda  is very active in her church.

 

 

 

Tanisha Perine-Dixon MA, CDCA, LPC

Tanisha Perine-Dixon is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant with A Sound Mind Counseling Service. She obtained her Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and her Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Kentucky University. Tanisha is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International, and is an active member of Xavier University’s Department of Counseling Mentoring Initiative. She also has affiliations with the American Counseling Association, the Association for Play Therapy, and the Ohio Counseling Association. Tanisha has experience working with diverse clientele from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

 

 

 

Dionne L. Rogers is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and has many years of experience while working with the mental health population in Cincinnati, Ohio for over 20 years. She received her BA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH; as well as her Masters Degree in Agency and Community Counseling from Xavier University. Ms. Rogers utilizes, but is not limited to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Brief-Therapy and Christian Counseling; while with working with Individuals, Groups, At-Risk Children, Families and Couples. Dionne L. Rogers is a mother of three Children and a grandmother of six children.

 

 

 

Ms. Angela N. Smittie MSW, LISW-S

Angela is an independently licensed social worker supervisor and has been a social worker for over nine years. She is clinically licensed to assess, diagnose and treat mental health disorders including addictions. She received her BSSW from Miami University, her MSW and her Certificate in Addictions Studies from the University of Cincinnati. Her Specialties include: Mental Health Issues, Stress Management, Drug/Alcohol Abuse/Addiction, Marital/Couples Counseling.

 

 

 

Kimberly Youngblood, LCDCIII, ICADC

Kimberly has worked in the field of addictions for 25 years. Kimberly has a passion to assist individuals with personal addictions by providing them with coping skills to live a healthy and addictive free lifestyle. Kimberly holds a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a focus on Addictions from the University of Cincinnati. She is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III (LCDCIII). She is also an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor by Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDPB). Kimberly also has experience in American Sign Language and volunteers these services at her local church.
